My EVS – Milda (Lithuania)

One year in Romania have already passed and my volunteering service is finished. I have had an amazing time while meeting new people from all over the Europe, discovering new culture, preparing activities and learning new things. I lived in beautiful Saxon town in the middle of Romania where I worked in NGO called Mirakolix (like that magician from the French film Asterix and Obelix). Together with 6 other volunteers from Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, France, Netherlands and Denmark, I have organized and carried out many events like inter-cultural evenings, International Children’s Day celebration, one-day summer festival, active Thursday afternoons in the city park etc. Throughout the year we were also engaged with planning, organizing and implementing activities in 6 schools, located in three different places. This period have been full of discoveries, challenges and new experiences, travels and adventures. Confusion, tiredness, some doubts also took its part as well. As I will come back in Lithuania in few weeks I will be more than glad to share my stories and experiences with you.

Milda took part for 12 month in the PlayRide project. The main goal of PlayRide project was to promote responsible outdoor recreational activities through in- and outdoor games, in particular, and different non-formal education methods, in general, and to increase recreational activities for children and youngsters from marginalized or isolated rural communities. The project involved teaching kids and youngsters the beauty of informal and non-formal education in schools, organizing cultural events, giving presentations on EVS in the local community, exploring the rural areas for unknown and undiscovered activities or sights that should be more known and promoting the learning through playful activities. One of the main successes of the project was the festival Ceva de Vara, organized in Intorsura Buzaului by the EVS volunteers together with local volunteers from different communities. The festival gave the opportunity to more than 500 people from rural and urban communities to experience alternative leisure activities, focused on non-formal methods, playful workshops and different concerts in the evening. Besides this, the project was a great learning experience for the 5 EVS volunteers involved.
